The Cardinal by Pete Dye-Arguably the hardest golf course in the Triad

The Cardinal by Pete Dye celebrates it's 50th Anniversary this year.  This challenging golf course resides in Greensboro, NC.  The course ranks #57 this year out of the top 100 courses here in the great state of North Carolina and is part of the McConnell Golf family for over 15 years.

This has been my home club for 11 years now and have had the opportunity to photograph it a few times for the club to use the content in marketing, website applications and social media posts.

This course is arguably the most challenging track here in the Triad and often mentioned by golfers as a serious test of the game thanks to Pete Dye's demanding design style.  The course has narrow corridors to shape your drive left and right, water that runs through the entire course and undulating green complexes with false fronts.

Last year the course had a major renovation on the sand traps which were re-worked from the bottom layer, including new irrigation where needed and perfectly soft sand added for another layer of difficulty.  I photographed some signature holes this past October for the club to have fresh content for print and web applications.

Having the opportunity to play this course many times I know all the interesting angles to show the course in it's best light.  I went out at sunrise and at dusk on a beautiful fall day this October and was very pleased with the variety of shots I got and mother nature did her magic.  Long shadows and rich colors emerged especially for the late afternoon shots.

Photographing golf courses is one of my favorite niche markets I have done over the years especially being a golfer since the young age of 12.

We now have some of the favorite images hanging throughout the club as fresh wall art.  There are three big prints in the downstairs bar, four in the ball room and a massive 7ftx4ft custom made canvas hangs proudly in the main foyer.

I worked with a few other vendors in the area on the big canvas project and certainly needed my go to guy to assist with securing and hanging this big boy!  The shot we choose is the main banner image above in this article which is the signature hole #11.
